Rough drivers, a real car horn and the Nagdhunga tunnel rules

The first release with a version number. It gathers everything added to the four public routes since early October.

New 9

  • Rough drivers. About a quarter of the traffic now drives as on any Nepali road: cutting in close ahead of the bus, taking the amber, overtaking with little room. When someone cuts in, the conductor shouts "ए! हेरेर चला न!" (Hey! Watch where you're going!).
  • Nagdhunga tunnel rules on the Prithvi Highway: a toll at the Kathmandu end (Rs 200 leaving the valley, Rs 260 coming in), 40 km/h strictly enforced inside with a fine at the far portal, and no motorbikes or scooters in the tunnel.
  • Yadea e-bikes on Route 4 and Pokhara Lakeside, some with a pillion. They squeeze past the bus at stops and wobble when you sound the horn behind them. Passing one too close or hitting it costs points.
  • The Mahindra Bolero in the Prithvi Highway traffic, carrying a tarp, sacks or nothing.
  • Realistic handling is the new default: a bend taken too fast makes the bus run wide, the air brakes take a moment to build, and a full bus pulls away more slowly. Simple handling is still in Settings.
  • Other vehicles honk, and car horns now sound like a real car. The conductor calls each stop in Nepali when the doors open.
  • Every bus has a windscreen that leans back as on the real buses, and Nepali-style mirrors that show the road behind.
  • Pick your bus and gears on the start screen. Automatic gears are the default, so the bus no longer feels slow for new players.
  • A reminder every 30 minutes to take a short break and look away from the screen. You can turn it off in Settings.

Better 4

  • Phones: the Stats and Settings panels keep their close button in reach, the back gesture closes a panel instead of leaving the game, and the loading card no longer sits under the notch.
  • The sound comes back with the next tap after a call or a voice assistant takes the phone's audio.
  • The home site shows the trailer, and the privacy, terms and feedback pages now live on bussimulatornepal.com. The feedback page has a new topic for questions about your profile or data.
  • bussimulatornepal.com has this What's new page, and the site's buttons say what they do when you point at them.

Fixed 4

  • Two fingers on the wheel and pedals no longer zoom the page in while you drive.
  • Buses in the traffic no longer flicker round their wheels.
  • Highway traffic no longer cuts back in while still alongside the vehicle it is passing.
  • On the Lakeside shore road the hillside no longer covers the road in places.

Before version numbers

How the game grew in its first days, before releases had numbers.

  1. bussimulatornepal.com

The home site grew to six pages: Routes, Features, How to play, FAQ and About.

  2. Feedback and people

A feedback page, and passengers and walkers in Nepali clothes: kurta suruwal, saris, daura suruwal with a dhaka topi.

  3. Nepali road realism

The Tata day bus, potholes, unmarked speed breakers, mud, and villagers and stray dogs who move only for the horn.

  4. Pokhara Lakeside

The fourth route: the real 6.4 km road from the Tourist Bus Park along Phewa Lake to Khapaudi.

  5. Online leaderboards

Boards for each route, all time and this week, and sign in with Google to keep your profile on any device.

  6. Butwal to Sunauli

The real Siddhartha Highway at its real length, built from OpenStreetMap. Then personal bests, people at zebra crossings and rain.

  7. The Prithvi Highway

Kathmandu to Pokhara with eight stops, the Nagdhunga tunnel or the old pass. Touch wheel, pedals and gamepads followed the same day.

  8. Route 4 opens

A city bus through a Kathmandu-style city with six stops, passengers and fares, then traffic lights at 16 junctions.
